ExpressionEngine 1.6 has been released

Nine days ago I announced that I was running the beta of 1.6 to test it out. This morning I’m happy to announce that 1.6 is now publicly available.  Among the many cool new features that I know people will love is a tidied up Control Panel, hidden templates, and a pages module.  Also notice the new theme.  Sexy indeed!

New ExpressionEngine User Interface

Of course, as always, the upgrade is free if you own a license.

This is excellent but kind of upsetting.  The end of last month I had a friend that needed a simple cms and I was really wanting to use EE because of how much I love CI. Well I couldn’t find a nice simple pages system so I ended up going with Modx.

But now I will be using it in the future for sure. :)

WOW! I’ve just been linked to your site by watching those video tutorials for codeigniter which you made. Great tutorials for a great framwork indeed.
But i write this comment for testing if i realy can type in xhtml code (~.~) ...

Oh yes, I would love to see more CI tutorials from you Derek. Maybe some use of models in them?

Great design here!

Great job on the new control panel.  Is this the major release you have been working on for a while or is 2.0 still in the works?

Thanks Neovive.  Most of the credit for the new theme belongs to Jesse Bennett-Chamberlain

1.6 was a pretty major release, in fact the largest re-write EllisLab has attempted ever, and version 2 is going to be even more major.

Fun times!

The Pages module also looks very nice.  I wish I knew about these changes sooner ..I’m finishing up a website for a client and built a custom admin using CI.  The previous version of EE seemed very blog-centric, but these new changes should really help.  I wonder how long it would take to rebuild the site in EE.
