Firefox 2 tabs - Hate em…
November 04th, 2006
I don't like the way Firefox 2 handles closing tabs. Here's how I fixed my Firefox to get back to the behaviour I wanted.
One of the things that I really got used to in Firefox 1.5 and earlier was the location of the close tab button being on the right hand side of the tab bar.
But in the new Firefox the default close tab button is located on the individual tabs.
I hate that. It's too easy for me to close a tab that I'm trying to bring focus to, and besides, I tend to just use a wheel-click when I want a tab closed. But I do like the button on the right in a stationary place, because then I can close windows in rapid succession. So I set about trying to find a way to get Firefox 2 to behave like 1.5 did.
The solution? Type "about:config" into the address bar. Look down the list that comes up for browser.tabs.closeButtons, and change the number to 3.

Voila!
