has been rebuilt

Well, this humble blog started as a standard Wordpress install. I quickly moved to the Hemmingway theme, but then thought that my site lacked any of my personality. So I set about to rebuild it. My first attempt was chronicled on this blog. My intentions were to make it available as a Wordpress theme for anyone to download.

But alas, the same old story of too much "real" (ie: paid) work to do led to a situtation where poor Peepo (that's the name of that menacing looking character in the site's header) never really found a good home.

All of that has changed! I've rebuilt the entire blog using Code Igniter, and I built it the way I wanted it to work. I'll be releasing a series of videos chronicling the rebuilt process, but more on that later. For now, I'd love to hear your thoughts? Love it? Hate it? Have you found a bug I should look at? How about you Mac users, I haven't been able to test it in Safari yet... any notables?

Here's a before and after side-by-side.

side-by-side comparison of old and new site versions

Nice rework, I have done it before and it is more time consuming that you think!

Thanks James!

I appreciate the kind words coming from an active Code Igniter contributor!

Nicely done Derek. I like the changes you have made. So far I haven’t noticed any bugs.

There’s a bug on the post archive page where it looks like some tags aren’t being closed if they run over the end of an excerpt.

View posts tagged ‘Code Igniter’ to see - it looks like a code or pre is opened in the excerpt, but then not closed, so all further excerpts are formatted as code.

Just looking into CI vs Cake, and came accross your tutorials and site - very impressed.

(and i think with so many letters in our names in common, i’d be a fool not to go with CI ;-))
